Day 40-43: zip lining and Christmas party
Dean, Jenny and I went for a nice big walk along the Ross river on Friday. We saw jabiru (like a giant black and white storks) which was cool! We met some kids along the way who told us all about the crocodiles that are in the river and how tier grandma saw one a few weeks ago. It was pretty funny, they went on an on with the fish tales.
In the evening Jenny taught me to take pavlova. An Australia/New Zealand dessert which is basically a merengue with a marshmallows center and topped with lots of fruit.
Saturday morning started with a wish, I got Dean to take me to the top of castle hill so I could go zip lining. It was a great little adventure with a beautiful view. I had a great time!
In the evening some of Dean and Jenny’s friends came over for a little Christmas party and we had a bunch of delicious apps from Yorkshire pudding/beef bites, ‘Mexican’ dip and chips (doesn’t resemble Mexican food but was tasty), sushi Dean and I made, and deviled eggs. There was plenty of delicious food, and we had my pavlova for dessert.
Today was mostly a recovery day after the busy day yesterday. I decided to turn down my job offer in Cairns to be a river guide. I’ve decided I want to head south after Townsville, and Cairns has gotten over a meter of rain in the last 5 days from the cyclone which won’t leave them, causing roads and homes to be flooded, just doesn’t feel like the direction I want to go right now. Plus, I got lots of plans around Australia I’ll be excited to get started on in the next month, and have plenty to do with my current job anyway, which besides the recent report stress has been great, and will continue to be so.
This afternoon Dean and I went to the golf course and I caddied for him between chasing Goanna (lizards) and wallabies and spoonbill storks.
