Brizzy
I spent the weekend in Brisbane staying with my friend India, who I worked with in New Zealand. She shares a house with her girlfriend and 2 roommates, and they were kinda enough to let me take some space in the office and set up a mattress for me.
This week is her birthday so we started the weekend with a birthday party for her with bottomless mimosas and tacos. The tacos were the best I’ve had here yet, but the bar is pretty low. The fillings were good, non-traditional, but good with options of pork belly, miso eggplant, fried chicken, and tempura mushroom. The tortillas, while corn, were crumbly and dry. The search continues to find a good corn tortilla… but the food and drink were not the point, and the party was absolutely lovely. 15 people showed up, all from different parts of her life. It was really neat getting to meet everyone and chat with a bunch of different friend groups all brought together by her. Everyone was really sweet and wonderful and I really enjoyed spending time with them.
After brunch we went to one of her friends house, they set up a blow up pool on the deck and we sat and chatted and ate and drank into the early evening before going home and passing out after a long day of socializing and drinking.
The following day, India and I spent the morning hiking then went to the planetarium with her parents for a Pink Floyd dark side of the moon show, which was very neat. Lots of really cool visuals. Then we went to a rally for a ceasefire in Gaza. In the evening we rested and hung with the roommates.
Monday everyone had to work, but one of the roommates and I took the dog for a walk together before and then I spent some time in the botanical garden. There was a really neat botanical art exhibit there and I had a nice chat with the artist for a while. Eventually I made my way to India’s parents’ house to get a bit of work done before we returned home for the evening.
Overall it was a really wonderful weekend with lovely and kind people.
