Lamington and Springbrook National Park
Following Brisbane, I decided it was time to head back into the rainforest and the mountains. I went up to Springbrook National Park where I went on a beautiful walk through and under waterfalls and along some beautiful views of the mountains all the way to the Gold Coast. It was a beautiful hike.
Following the hike I decided to camp and headed to the next national park, Lamington national park. No lamingtons unfortunately, but I did have a beautiful little campsite hidden away in the forest. The common areas/kitchen were beautiful and overlooked the valley and I enjoyed my dinner watching the sunset. I did a little work in my tent before my laptop ran out of battery which worked way better than I could have hoped and will be doing it more in the future.
The campground I stayed in, O’Reilleys, is part of a larger eco-resort in the middle of the national park. It has basic campground (where I stayed) but also permanent tents with bunks, a guest house, cabins, really everything for every interest. The area is full of such diverse wildlife and bird life and I was some amazing birds. The most spectacular of which was the suburb fairy wren which has bright blue patches on its head, but also I saw some gorgeous parrots and robins and quails.
In the morning I had a lovely breakfast at the cafe overlooking the mountains and watching the birds flit around, before heading back down the very scary road.
I’d recommend the place to any traveler, just absolutely gorgeous.. if you can survive the very scary drive. Australia does this thing to slow people down and to reduce construction where they make 2 way roads merge into a single lane. So you have to see if anyone is coming from the other direction, usually around a corner, before driving down the road, with a steep cliff on one side. I hate it. I hope to block that portion of the trip out of my memory soon.
