Royal National Park
(Excuse some of my typing here on out, I’ve realized how easy voice to text is for recording thoughts but it doesn’t always get things right)
After leaving Paul and Maree’s I worked my way south through Sydney to Royal national Park. Originally I had the intention of taking the train into Sydney for the day, but I got too busy chatting away in the morning that I decided I wouldn’t have time to really enjoy the day there. instead I set up camp at Royal national Park and went for an incredibly gorgeous hike. The views were stunning. It’s really tall cliffs overlooking the bright blue ocean with crashing waves and it was just such an incredible site.
Around sunset I went out to the salt flats. There were a bunch of little crabs on the salt flats and when I sat still for a little while they would come out of their holes and start living. I noticed that the crabs with red tips on their claws were probably female, and they would just come out and forage, but the crabs with purple claws, likely the males, would put their claws up in the air repeatedly. It was really cute to watch. They have white tips on the end of their claws, and they put them up and down up and down kinda like they’re doing the wave and they’ll walk up to the other males doing their little wave and they’ll do it back-and-forth at each other and get really close face-to-face and both of them are kind of, pushing up on their tiptoes with their little claws up and dropping down and then doing it over and over again. It was really cute to watch.
I’m not sure how many times a day is a normal amount of times to say “I am so lucky.” But I have found that saying it two or three times a day every day since October is a pretty good sign of how things are going (minus the days of the cyclone, but I’ve basically blocked that part out). I was on the phone with a friend the other day and I was once again talking about my fortuitous luck, and they laughed at me because they said, “you are so excited to be basically homeless and living out of your car and I’m very happy for you.” Nonetheless this has been a amazing experience and I continue to be excited about every day and all the cool things I’ve seen and will continue to explore..
