Yuraygir NP
My next stop along my journey was back down the mountains to Yuraygir National Park. It’s about 30 minutes off the highway to the coast, through Fran’s and pastures. The rural country really made it feel much further than it actually was, which was really lovely.
I got to the campsite and set up my tent, it was a bit of a struggle as the wind whipped the tent away from me a number of times. I chastised the wind a bit for its lack of cooperation and in the end we came to an agreement and my tent was set up.
I wandered the beach for a bit which was ripping with large waves, before a light rain started to fall. Even calling it a rain is a bit overkill, it was more a constant but windy misting.
The campsite had a small covered area where I cooked up my dinner and I ended up sitting in my car eating and then I spent a few hours lounged in the back seat working until my computer died.
The rain had not stopped by the time I woke up the next morning, and so I decided to head to the nearest pound to get some coffee and get some work done at the coffee shop. It was a really cute small shop with homemade pastries and stuff that felt like they knew each other if they were family. Everyone who came in, seemed to be on a first main basis with the coffee shop owners, and staff, which was really sweet to watch. I ordering coffees and other drinks over the next few hours charging my laptop working and observing the interactions of the small town. Was really lovely and kind and enjoyable and a great way to spend my morning. When I felt like I couldn’t stay any longer without it being weird I headed back to my campsite. I worked some more from my car before braving the rain and going for a stroll.
I met up with a German girl who was also camping in the same campground. Her partner had gone to surf in the rain but her and I chatted for a while and she gave me a bunch of really cool ideas of places to camp and travel while I continue my journey it was really great to get some more suggestions.
Luckily by the next morning, when I plan to leave, the rain stopped and dried out my time I spent a lovely morning, walking down the ocean before packing up my car for my next trip.
