Last days in Tassie
Next I drove north to Lake St Clair. It’s a beautiful lake in the mountains. It’s the final destination of the overland track which is a 7 day hike people do from cradle mountain to st Clair. The visitor center is full of people returning from their long journey looking g tired and happy and ready to be back in civilization. After a short walk I went to a nearby lodge to work and sit by the fire into the evening which was lovely.
The next morning I got up early and took a boat across the lake. They will drop you off on the far side so you can walk back which was a lovely use of my day.
The clouds were low in the sky and the peaks around the lake were totally hidden by the dense fog. It was cool and quiet as I walked along the mossy trail stopping to enjoy creeks and trees and sitting by the edge of the water. Another lovely day.
The next morning I got up slow and headed towards Ulverstone, stopping at a few hikes along the way. My final stop was this little distillery called Willmot Hills where I had a liqueur and chocolate tasting. I had brandy, apple brandy, lemoncello, and cherry port all made by this retired Scottish guy. I spent a few hours there chatting with the bloke and his friends by the fire and it was a tasty and lovely afternoon before I met up with Sue and Peter in Ulverstone. I spent the next two nights with them and had a lovely few days of chatting, visiting the arboretum, visiting op shops, and exploring the area. They are a great couple and it was a pleasure to get to spend a bit more time with them. The first night i was there Sue got a call from a friend about the Aurora Australia and we got in the car and headed to the highest point in town. The sky was pink and green with the Aurora lights and while they werent as bright as they looked in the camera it was still pretty phenomenal. The next morning we visited the arboretum and it was gorgeous and full of so many trees changing to fall colors. It was a fantastic walk getting to explore the place.
Next I drove on the giant ferry back to mainland Australia. It was a long a bumpy night, but I found a spot on the floor and passed out for the majority of the trip.
