Adelaide

We spent the next few days in Adelaide where we enjoyed moving slowly, eating delicious foods, and spending quality time. Our first morning in Adelaide we headed downtown to the museums. We wandered through the immigration museum which was really interesting and full of information on the history of immigration in Australia. From the displacement of indigenous people to the placement of criminals then eventually the English promises of it being a land of opportunity. It discussed the Australia white policy which gave immigration preference and encouragement to white immigrants through the 60s which changed with the definitions of whiteness over the years. Then into the current immigration schemes, British are still the highest proportion of immigrants here, but Chinese and Indians are coming in growing numbers now. It was really fascinating to read the history over time. After the immigration museum we went to the art museum and looked at lots of cool art. Especially some really interesting textiles that I liked a lot. They were abstract with lots of asymmetry in all directions. In the afternoon Pat and I enjoyed a bit of rest at the house while the rest of the family went to the Adelaide Market and picked up a variety of treats. We had a lovely big dinner with everyone, relaxing and enjoying the slow day.

The next morning we went to Fino at a winery for a huge delicious lunch. Along the way Mom, Dad, Chris and I stopped at Marialta Conservation Park. It was a great trail with lots of cool hikes. We went for a brief hike along the river and spotted koalas high up in the trees. Finally we headed to the winery. Lunch was 6 courses which we shared. The food was absolutely lovely and I gained many new ideas I'll have to try cooking at home. One of the favorites was roasted pumpkin with a soy miso glaze. It was sweet and savory and warm and just melted in your mouth. Every plate was really delicious though and we were stuffed and happy. We headed home for a nice big rest. In the evening Chris, Mom, and I webt to see Jane Goodall downtown  it was incredible to hear her talk. Shes 90 years old and went ob for 45 minutes talking about growing up and her passion for wildlife and curiosity. How her mom encouraged her and how she went to Africa with no degree to learn about wildlife and ended up studying gorillas. All her accomplishments were incredible, but also her humor and wit  it was so cool

The next day we went back to Marialta with Pat to show her the koalas and go for another wander. On the way home we stopped at the market whree we wandered through the many delicious stands. The market had incredible looking veg and fruit, and imported cheese, and foods from all sorts of different places. We ogled a variety of goods and foods and finally settled on picking up some friattas for our last Adelaide dinner. Dad and Pat rested while Mom, Chris and I walked to the nearby park seeing the small Japanese garden and flcoks of hundreds of croella birds. Overall another lovely stop on our journey.
